About the Author

- Sheri Ann McQuality, Author -
Born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Sheri graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1994. After graduation Sheri dove boots first into a male dominated construction industry. She experienced firsthand what it felt like to be one of a small handful of women in construction. Some would call her a pioneer in the industry, as she has helped pave the way for future generations of young women. Sheri’s goal is to inspire, educate and empower through captivating stories that celebrate girls in the construction industry.
"My Mom's a Builder (Can I Build Too?)" is the first book in the empowering series,
"Girls Can Build". This book series highligts both the struggles and successes that girls encounter in the construction industry, and how we embrace them for future achievements.
"My Mom's a Builder (Can I Build Too?)" is my own personal story about how my love of construction started and the inspiration that I received from my biggest fan, my Dad. This book is dedicated to my Dad who passed away peacefully in March of 2024.
Love you, Dad.

About the Illustrator

- Lily Ortiz, Illustrator -
Lilia 'Lily' Ortiz is a children’s book illustrator who’s been creating illustrations for over a decade! She has a deep love for reading and takes joy in creating artwork that brings the words to life. She is always trying new things, from clean, polished art to more textured styles, traditionally or digitally, the exploration never ends! Lily hopes to give children the same feeling that she had as a kid in her school library: the chance to escape into another world, even if just for a little while.
I'm elated to have Lily on board for my "Girls Can Build" children's book series.
